Homosexuality, biological or choice.

I read an article in the Los Angeles Times titled "Study Links Male Gays, Birth of Older Brothers", on June 27, 2006, and although I am encouraged that there is more support for homosexuality as a biological condition instead of a life choice, my questions to the gay community would be: Is it possible to be sexually stimulated by the opposite sex? If so, under what conditions could you be sexually stimulated by the opposite sex? If you could change your sexual persuasion, would you? Were you ever angry at your parents for your homosexual condition? Dr.Jo, do you have any thoughts about this?

  1. There will always be a myriad of opinions about homosexuality being biological or choice, some educated views and others completely ignorant of the facts. What is important is that we as a society stop discriminating against those that are different than ourselves, whether that difference is biological or not.

The gay clients that I have counseled are varied in their sexual stimulation and persuasion. About half of the male clients have absolutely no interest in women sexually, and don’t want to change their orientation. Some have been married and have children and could be stimulated by a woman but prefer sex with a man. As for women, a much higher percent of them have had sexual relationships with the opposite sex, been married and have children. Women also seem to be more prone to bisexuality than men. None of my gay clients, male or female, have had a problem with wanting to change their sexual preference if they could; in fact most of their troubles come from trying to deal with being accepted for who they are, and learning how to be in a long term relationship with someone. As for being angry with their parents, well yes, some are, but they don’t blame their parents for their sexual orientation. They’re angry because their parents didn’t treat them kindly and many were ostracized by their families after coming out.

I would like to have some feedback about this from those of you reading this blog. Here is a link to the article:
